About Us
Founder: Rev. Michael A. Porter
Motivated by a sincere desire to serve the community, Rev. Michael A. Porter, along with with a group of dedicated members of the Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, started the Canaan Community Development Corporation (CDC) with a goal to help the economically disadvantaged residents who lived in close proximity of the church and to secure adequate housing for the area's elderly.
Rev. Porter was very active in the community and was loved by all he encountered. His untimely death in 2003 left a void in the organization, the church and the community. In 2017, the Board of Directors voted to change the name of the organization to pay homage to the man behind the vision.
